The management of Bayero University, Kano has said the students’ central registration fees have remained unchanged despite the growing inflation in the country, the Vice Chancellor Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, has disclosed.


Speaking during a parley with the executives members of the Students Union Government on Thursday 23 May. 2024 in his office, Prof Abbas said the University management is conscious of the prevailing hard economic situation in the country and therefore will not add more burden on the parents and the students.
“We decided not to increase our registration fees above what we charged last academic session and we have no plan for any increment at least for now. This is because we also feel your pains and the welfare of our students is paramount,” said the Vice Chancellor.
According to Professor Abbas, “Conscious of the prevailing economic situation in the country and taking into consideration of the caliber of the bulk of the students of the University, all the charges for central registration. fees will remained unchanged as obtained during the 2022/2023 session.”
In addition, he said the university management, as it has done last year would go round to contact other wealthy and public spirited individuals across the country to mobilize funds to support the university’s indigent scholarship scheme.
Professor Abbas while expressing the commitment of the university towards improving the welfare of staff and students noted that the burden of funding education is not for government alone, as all hands must be on deck to rescue the situation.
“As we strive hard to provide quality education, we must all come together and give a helping hand. Those who have the resources can bring in money, those vested with managing it should fear Allah and utilize it judiciously while the students and staff should handle all facilities with care, not to damage or destroy them deliberately. It is a collective responsibility and everybody is a stakeholder in this respect,” he admonished.
The Vice Chancellor also charged the students to avoid anything that will jeopadise peace in the campus, saying without peace and tranquility, nothing could be achieved. Also speaking, the President of the Students Union
Government, Comrade Naseer Ibrahim Isah (Aluta Professor) thanked the Vice Chancellor for the meeting which he said will go a long way in cementing cordiality between the students body and the management for a peaceful academic session.
He noted that as students’ representatives they will do everything humanly possible to support the university to achieve its goals of providing quality education to thestudents. Assuring the management that SUG are partners in progress.
Meanwhile, the Senate of the university has approved academic calendar for 2023/2024 session as well as the student’s registration guidelines.
The Senate, at its 412″ meeting held on Wednesday, 29 May, 2024 has approved the commencement of the 2023/2024 academic calendar with registration of fresh students commencing from Monday, 3 June and closing on 14th July, 2024 while returning students will start their registration on Monday, 10 June to close on 14 July, 2024.
Under the new registration guidelines, it noted that all students both fresh and returning must authenticate their studentship before starting the registration process using the following link: https://mybuk2.buk.edu.ng/ug/authentication.php.
The Senate also approved that lectures for the first semester for the 2023/2024 academic session will start on Monday, 15 July, 2024 and will finish on Saturday, 5″ October, 2024 while mid-semester break (first semester) is slated for 26 to 30 August, 2024.
According to the calendar, the first semester examinations will hold between Monday, 7th October, to 9 November, 2024.
