A Nigerian corps member, @harriettreat, emotionally honored her grandmother—who raised her in the absence of her parents—by saluting her at her shop after completing NYSC, a gesture that moved both the grandmother and many online to tears.

A touching video has gone viral showing a youth corps member, identified on TikTok as @harriettreat, honoring her grandmother in an emotional tribute after completing her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
Dressed in her NYSC uniform, the young woman visited her grandmother’s shop and delivered a heartfelt salute, visibly moving the elderly woman to tears. The grandmother rushed to embrace her, overwhelmed with emotion, and offered prayers as she cried tears of joy.
A Tribute to a Lifetime of Sacrifice
In the caption accompanying the video, @harriettreat revealed the deep bond she shares with her grandmother, who raised her in the absence of her parents. She referred to her as her “superhero” and the “pillar” of her life, thanking her for being a constant source of support throughout her academic journey — from primary school all the way to NYSC.
“From primary and secondary school to higher institution and now NYSC, she’s been there through it all. What makes me most grateful is that she’s still here to witness it. It’s a blessing to have someone like her,” she wrote.
She also admitted there were times she felt like quitting during her service year, but the thought of making her grandmother proud kept her going.
Netizens React
The heartwarming clip touched many viewers online. Here are a few reactions:
- Omobewaji: “Thank you grandma, we love you. You will surely eat the fruit of your labour.”
- the_mobolaji: “Iya alara bulletproof! Congratulations to you both. May God bless you abundantly.”
- Adebukola Adetunj456: “Similar story here. May God bless all the grandmothers who stood in as parents. Can’t wait to spoil mine too.”
From the Creator’s Heart
In a follow-up message, the corps member shared more of her personal journey:
“While editing the clips, I cried so much. My parents weren’t around during my early years, and though my mom came back later, my grandma has always been there. She treated me like her own. If you’ve ever been raised by someone who isn’t your parent but showed you unconditional love, you’ll understand what this means. Please help me say thank you to her in the comments.”
The video, set to the emotional soundtrack “MAAMI” by Beriola, continues to resonate with viewers across social media.
