She said that, when compared to her friends who had higher scores, she felt like a failure and the thought of being a failure made her depressed.
Her mother was of immense help to her, with her motivational words and her words of wisdom which enabled her to keep pushing, and not give up.
According to her, her mother told her that even tho she didn’t start well, that doesn’t mean she won’t end well and also, that there’s nothing good which comes easy.
The lady then listened to her mother’s advice and started working with it, by knowing what her problems were, and finding solutions to them.
Finally, it all ended in praise for her as she graduated with a strong 4 points from law school, she then thanked God for his grace and mercies.
She encouraged other students that might be going through what she went through, to believe in themselves and hoped her story will be an inspiration to many other people.
From a 3.6 CGPA to what we all call strong 4 points, this is my LLB story.
Flashback to my 100l days when I started as a fresher, excited I got into faculty of law, a level in which much is expected from you.
It’s easy to build your CGPA at 100l, make a first class at that level to help you graduate if not with first class but a second class upper CGPA was all I heard from my seniors which is actually true.
Unfortunately, I made a 3.7 CGPA after my first semester’s exams, I got into depression I cried my eyes out I felt like I was a failure when most of my friends made 4 points, as if that wasn’t enough fast-forward to second semester, the semester I prepared more it dropped again to 3.6 at this point I was already giving up, I couldn’t talk too much in my class because I felt I wasn’t up to my friends’ standards intellectual wise.
200level came it rose a little in first semester I got relieved a bit, little did I know another depression was coming for me, hmm second semester it dropped again ah God where do I start from?.Seeing my second semester’s results I called my mum immediately and then told her that I’m not sure the saying “if you cannot make a first class atleast make a second class upper” can be possible because what’s looking like I’m going to graduate with is a second class lower. I already planned taking another jamb in that year to apply for something not just law.
The words of my mum that day were ” The fact that you didn’t start well doesn’t mean you won’t end well and you cannot give up at this stage, also nothing good comes easy it means your hard work is not enough, no one wants to see the process everyone is interested in the results”. I held on to those words I got gingered a little.
I took out time to analyse my problems . Highlights of the things I did differently were: *Got closer to God which was the first thing I did. I got to realize we shouldn’t get close to God only when we have problems. *Increased my reading hours. Read close to 14 hours a day. *Stopped permutations, I tried to read everything taught that semester. *Consulted seniors. Asked them questions.
Had a study group of four friends in which we shared opinions because you actually can’t work alone in faculty of law o. *Compared my notes with my coursemates, basically checked detailed notes of my coursemates. *Paid more attention to what lecturers say in class.
If there’s one thing I learnt all through this journey then it would be that never give up until you get your desired results, it might look hard but at the end of the day if you work smartly supporting with the God factor you will definitely achieve that goal.
Today this is me who has found favour in the sight of God , I’m officially a graduate of law from the prestigious faculty of law Olabisi Onabanjo University.
My Linkeldn family it’s a great honour to introduce myself as I.H Abodunrin (L.L.B Hons).
