FG Suspends 13 Students from Enugu Unity College Over Bullying Incident

The Nigerian government suspended 13 students from Enugu’s Federal Unity College for six weeks following a viral video of a bullying incident, with further investigations and enhanced security measures underway.

The Nigerian Federal Government has suspended 13 students from the Federal Unity College (FUC) in Enugu State for six weeks following allegations of bullying.

This announcement came from Folashade Boriowo, the Director of Press and Public Relations for the Ministry of Education, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja. The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, ordered the suspension after a viral video emerged, showing students from the college involved in bullying activities.

Dr. Alausa emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for learning in all federal schools across the country. He highlighted that a recent report brought the incident to the attention of the Federal Ministry of Education, raising serious concerns regarding the safety and discipline within the school.

According to the Ministry’s findings, the incident involved a group assault on a day student in SS1 on November 7. The event became widely known after a disturbing video circulated on social media.

In response, the Federal Ministry of Education formed a disciplinary committee to investigate. Based on preliminary findings, all 13 students involved were placed on a six-week suspension pending the final report of the committee.

The Minister also directed the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) to work with security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation, including probing for any possible external affiliations. He added that immediate steps have been taken to strengthen security at the college, including the involvement of law enforcement and a review of existing safety protocols.
