Simeon Ogunbunmi credits his LAUTECH education for his academic excellence at SUNY Binghamton, where he achieved a perfect CGPA, advanced research in network security and UAV systems, and now pursues a PhD with aspirations to innovate and mentor in his field.

Simeon Ogunbunmi, a graduate of Computer Science and Engineering, credits his undergraduate studies at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, for laying the foundation for his academic achievements at the State University of New York (SUNY), Binghamton, where he graduated with a perfect CGPA of 4.00. In an interview with Tunbosun Ogundare, he shared insights into his academic journey, motivations, and future aspirations.
Ogunbunmi completed his secondary education at Aatan Baptist Comprehensive High School, Koso-Oyo, Oyo State, in 2014, excelling in his Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). He went on to study Computer Science and Engineering at LAUTECH in 2015, where he graduated in 2022 with a First Class honor, earning a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.62 out of 5.0, making him the third-best in his class.
He developed a passion for computer engineering during his secondary school years, particularly excelling in Physics and Further Mathematics, which prepared him for an engineering career. At LAUTECH, Ogunbunmi cultivated his interest further, achieving stellar academic success through dedication and effective learning strategies.
Ogunbunmi’s decision to pursue postgraduate studies in the United States was part of a long-term goal to attend an R1 (very high research) institution. He chose SUNY Binghamton for its strong research focus and supportive academic environment. In August 2023, he graduated with a Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, achieving a perfect CGPA of 4.00. He attributes much of his success to the solid academic and character foundation laid during his time at LAUTECH.
Ogunbunmi is now in the third year of his PhD program at SUNY, which he plans to complete by 2026. His research focuses on network security, machine learning, and autonomous systems, with a particular emphasis on creating advanced solutions for blockchain technology and UAV networks. During his Master’s program, he worked extensively in the Intelligent and Sustainable Edge Computing (I-SEC) Lab, collaborating with institutions such as the Department of Defense and the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).
Beyond academics, Ogunbunmi actively contributed to the SUNY community. He served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Public Relations Officer of the Graduate African Student Organization at Binghamton University, helping connect African students and fostering collaboration within the academic community.
Ogunbunmi aspires to establish himself as a leading researcher and engineer in UAV network systems, focusing on developing safe autonomous systems and advancing smart city technologies. He aims to promote international collaboration in technological research and serve as a mentor to upcoming researchers and engineers in his field.
