Alex Otti approves jobs and scholarships for top graduates

Alex Otti announced automatic jobs, postgraduate scholarships, civil service opportunities, and business funding for top graduates of Abia State University, alongside a ₦5 million reward for the best student, as part of efforts to strengthen education and youth development.

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has announced automatic employment and scholarship opportunities for first-class graduates of Abia State University.

Speaking during the university’s 30th to 32nd combined convocation ceremony, the governor directed the institution to begin retaining qualified first-class graduates as graduate assistants, provided they complete the mandatory National Youth Service Corps service.

He further explained that this opportunity would also apply to the best graduating students in each department, as long as they achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 4.25. In addition, all first-class graduates from the affected graduating sets will receive postgraduate scholarships to study in any public university in Nigeria up to PhD level, on the condition that they accept the teaching role offered to them.

The governor also instructed the state’s Head of Service to identify positions within the civil service that can accommodate up to 100 outstanding graduates. Priority will be given to those in fields such as education, computer science, statistics, and health-related disciplines after completing their NYSC program.

In a further move to encourage innovation, the state government has set aside ₦200 million to support up to 100 graduates with strong business ideas, particularly in agriculture, ICT, and clean energy. Interested candidates are expected to submit their proposals before April 30, 2026.

At the event, Alex Otti also awarded a personal cash gift of ₦5 million to the overall best graduating student, Oluchi Etumsi. He congratulated other honorary award recipients, including Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Allen Onyema, and Stella Okoli, encouraging them to continue upholding excellence.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the education sector, emphasizing that continuous investment in education is essential for long-term development.
