LASUED Closure For Upcoming 2023 General Elections

Lagos State University Of Education, LASUED Senate Directives on the Closure Of All Universities and Inter-University centres during the forth coming 2023 General Elections

The University Senate at its 4th Statutory meeting held on Thursday 16th February, 2023, discussed at length a paper from the National Universities Commission on the Ministerial directive regarding the closure of all universities and inter University Centres during the forthcoming 2023 General Elections.

Senate while considering the paper noted as follows:

  • That the General elections had been scheduled to hold on Saturday 25th February, 2023, for the National Assembly and Presidential elections while 13th March, 2023 had been slated for the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
  • That in view of the concern expressed on the security of staff, students and properties, the Honourable Minister of Education, after due consultation with relevant security agencies, directed that all Universities and inter Universities centres be shut down and Academic activities be suspended between Wednesday, 22 February, 2023 and 14th March, 2023.

Senate, after further deliberations DIRECTED as follows:

  • That all Academic activities be suspended between March, 2023 in view of the General Elections holding on 25th February and 13th March, 2023 and in line with the directive of the Honourable Minister of Education.
  • While students and staff are on this shut down, staff on essential services will be directed at the discretion of the Management. Academic Staff may seize the opportunity of the shutdown to interact with their students online.

Deans of Colleges, Directors, Heads of Departments/Divisions and units are kindly requested to bring the contents of this memorandum to the attention of staff as appropriate, please.
