NASU and SSANU have suspended their indefinite strike, initiated over unpaid salaries, after the government released some funds, though discussions on outstanding payments continue.

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) called off their strike, which they initiated over unpaid salaries.
On October 28, non-academic staff unions across federal universities launched an indefinite, nationwide strike over withheld salaries dating back to 2022.
The participating unions were the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
On November 2, the federal government released withheld salaries for the striking workers, along with pending benefits for retirees.
On Sunday, NASU and SSANU issued a directive to their state chairpersons, announcing the suspension of the strike from November 5.
The unions noted that two months’ worth of unpaid salaries remain outstanding.
“The joint action committee, after several discussions and with patriotic consideration, hereby directs the suspension of the ongoing indefinite strike for one month, effective Tuesday, November 5, 2024,” the statement partially read.
Further, the unions confirmed that talks on the remaining two months’ salaries, a N50 billion allowance, arrears of 25/35 percent, and a wage award are underway.
