Students of the University of Benin (Ekheuan Campus) blocked the main gate to protest a three-day blackout and water shortage—citing poor living conditions and a security scare—and refused access until authorities provide permanent fixes.

Students of University of Benin, Ekheuan Campus, blocked the school gate Saturday morning, protesting 3-day power outage and water shortage. Stranded workers, business operators, and visitors couldn’t access campus.
Student Prosper lamented, “We paid fees, yet no light, no water. Hostels are messed up; bathing’s like getting gold.” Another student cited a security scare: an armed man tried entering girls’ hostel Friday night, injuring a student.
Deputy VC Professor Adesina Ayinde assured water supply today, electricity being sorted. But students refused to open gate until water flows.
The campus’ only generator broke down. A backup generator, bought by Prof Friday Orunmwense, was relocated to Ugbowo campus.
Senior staff still negotiating with students. Protesters demand permanent solutions, not temporary fixes.
The blockade highlights infrastructure strain in Nigerian campuses.
