Simesihle Khuzwayo, an 18-year-old South African girl, has achieved remarkable success in her high school exams, graduating with eight distinctions and earning two fully funded bursary awards to study at any university in South Africa. Her outstanding performance, with a 90.6% grade, has made her one of the top performers of 2025.
Despite facing health challenges during her exams, Simesihle refused to give up and stayed committed to her studies with the support of her family and teachers. She attributes her success to her hard work, consistency, and passion for learning. Simesihle’s research project, “Double Trouble, Double Solution: Neutralising Acid & Plastics with Nature’s Help,” earned her recognition as one of South Africa’s leading young scientists at the 45th Eskom Expo International Science Fair (ISF).
Overcoming Adversity
Simesihle’s health struggles have shaped her career aspirations, inspiring her to study Medicine at the University of Cape Town with hopes of specialising in Cardiology. She believes education is key to moving South Africa forward and plans to use her knowledge to help others.
