He claimed that during one of their exams, this classmate once sat down next to him and began asking him for the answers. He admitted that he had declined to assist him because he had believed him to be an unserious student.

Years later, he discovered that the ‘unserious’ student had gone on to start a prosperous computer business, while he, the narrator, continued to live paycheck to paycheck.
