UAT Matriculates Over 1500 Fresh Students as VC Lauds Bayelsa Gov’t Commitment to the Varsity Growth

Vice Chancellor of the Bayelsa State-owned University of Africa, Toru-Orua, UAT, Professor Solomon Ebobrah has again re-emphasized that UAT will remain consistent in its pursuit of providing quality education that is dedicated to the generation of knowledge for innovation and service.

Professor Solomon Ebobrah made the affirmation at the UAT 8th Matriculation exercise at Toru-Orua where a total of 1604 students subscribed to the Matriculation Oath to pursue Bachelor degree in various fields of study.

The University of Africa Toru-Orua Vice-Chancellor said the matriculation exercise was a step towards the actualization of the dreams of each student and it also signifies their preparedness to abide by the statutes, rules and regulations of UAT; noting that it is a new contract involving the students, their parents and guardians, and UAT while expressing hope that it will translate to a formidable relationship in which the University operationalises the aspiration and duty of the Bayelsa State Government to educate her people, with the support of their families, for constructive contribution to nation building.

According to Professor Solomon Ebobrah, the relatively young but exceptionally ambitious University, which was established less than ten years ago, prides itself as a symbol of a renascent Africa with four faculties, offering 26 viable programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), with additional 16 courses soon get NUC approval for take-off.

While congratulating the new students for making UAT a choice of destination, the Vice-Chancellor applauded the Bayelsa State Government for the foresight in establishing the institution as well as the robust support given it since its inception.

He charged the matriculants to utilize the conducive teaching and learning environment at UAT and stay away from vices – including cultism, hard drugs, indecent dressing, negative peer influence among others – but that they should be studious and strive for academic excellence to become productive and responsible citizens.

On the part of parents and guardians, Professor Solomon Ebobrah insisted that they remain a critical part of the students academic progress and wants them to always monitor their academic performance on the University’s students portal.

Presenting cash awards to some top-flight students with the highest JAMB scores admitted to UAT, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Barclays Ayakoroma assured that the institution will always reward academic excellence.

Some of the matriculating students who spoke with newsmen, Silas Tarinabo in Mass Communication Department; and Christiana Obene of the Business Administration Department all expressed excitement with promises to graduate in flying colours.
