University of Benin (UNIBEN) Approved Academic Calendar for 2023/2024 Academic Sessions has been released.
We are pleased to inform the public especially new and returning students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) that the school management has released the approved Academic calendar for the Commencement of 2023/2024 academic Session.
Below is the breakdown of academic activities.

UNIBEN Academic Calendar
First Semester
- Sunday, 11th August 2024: All students move into halls of residence.
- Monday, 12th August 2024: Lectures begin across all faculties.
- Monday, 26th – Friday, 30th August 2024: Revision week.
- Monday, 2nd September 2024: Examinations start in Faculties of Education, Engineering, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Physical Sciences, and School of Basic Medical Sciences.
- Saturday, 7th September 2024: CED examinations.
- Monday, 9th September 2024: Examinations begin in other faculties, schools, and institutes.
- Wednesday, 18th – Thursday, 19th September 2024: GST examinations. Students go on break, ending the semester.
Second Semester
- Sunday, 6th October 2024: All students return to halls of residence.
- Monday, 7th October 2024: Lectures resume in all faculties.
- Friday, 20th December 2024: Students proceed on Christmas and New Year break.
- Sunday, 5th January 2025: Students return to residence.
- Monday, 6th – Friday, 10th January 2025: Revision week.
- Monday, 13th – Friday, 17th January 2025: Examinations start in Faculties of Education, Engineering, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Physical Sciences, and School of Basic Medical Sciences.
- Saturday, 18th and Monday, 20th January 2025: CED examinations.
- Tuesday, 21st – Thursday, 30th January 2025: Examinations hold in other faculties, schools, and institutes.
- Friday, 31st January and Saturday, 1st February 2025: GST examinations. Students go on end of session break.
Important Notes
- 16th September 2024: Eid-el-Maulud.
- 21st September 2024: Proposed Edo State elections.
- 1st October 2024: Independence Day.
- 17th October 2024: Students’ Union elections.

NOTE: Any student who fails to register at the close of the registration deadline will be deemed to have voluntarily withdrawn from the University.
