The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Abuja (Uniabuja), Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, has said that the institution is not churning out first class graduates like other institutions in the country because of the hard work that goes into producing graduates in the school.

Addressing the 28th pre-convocation press briefing at the main campus of the institution on Thursday, the VC said even though they were not saying other institutions did not put in the same hard work, the portal system employed by the institution was very efficient and not manual.
Na’Allah said that a total of 7,896 students would be involved in the convocation on Saturday, adding that 151 of them will be PhD recipients and 742 Masters and professional Masters would also be graduating.
He said 41 students would be graduating with First Class, 1,845 with Second Class upper, 4,842 Second Class lower, 1,075 with Third Class and 50 with passes.
The vice-chancellor also said that 971 would be graduating from the Centre for Distance Learning and 383 with Post- Graduate Diploma.
The VC who also spoke about some of his achievements, said, “University of Abuja is destined to be the leader of universities in Nigeria, and we have embraced that because it is going to have a major impact in shaping opinion in helping the government make policies.
“This is a university that is training its students not to roam the streets after graduation; to not just look for government jobs, but create their own enterprises which they are already practising as students. Every student by the time they graduate must have registered their own company with the CAC and must have practiced for a few years.
“To support this endeavour, we just got approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the University of Abuja Micro Finance Bank to take off. We have gotten approval, they have done the inspection and in the next two weeks or one month we will take off fully. We have done the recruitment, we have an MD and other members of staff at the pioneer level. The board meets regularly to make sure that we take off.”
