PROF. OLUFEMI IDOWU Elected 10th Provost of Lagos State University College of Medicine

PROF. OLUFEMI IDOWU has been Elected 10th Provost of Lagos State University College of Medicine

Following a robust campaign period and presentation of manifestos, the current Deputy Provost, Professor Olufemi Idowu, has emerged as the winner of the much-anticipated election for the 10th Provost of the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM).

Professor Idowu defeated Professor Mobolaji Oludara, the former Acting Provost, in a cleanly contested election for the prestigious position that underscores the vibrant democratic traditions of the College and power of its Academic Staff Assembly.

The election, held on Tuesday, 17th December 2024 in the Medical Sciences Auditorium, witnessed an impressive voter turnout comprised of members of the college’s Academic Staff Assembly.

The process, overseen by the Chief Electoral Officer and Registrar of the University, Mr Emmanuel A. FANU ably represented by the College Secretary – Mr O.A. Oyebanjo was lauded by observers for its transparency and adherence to electoral standards.

As the newly elected Provost, Professor Olufemi Idowu is set to assume office in January 2025. His administration will inherit ongoing projects, most notably the transmutation plans of the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), into the University of Medical and Health Sciences by the Lagos State Government.

Speaking to the Information Unit immediately after the announcement of his victory, Professor Olufemi Idowu expressed gratitude to the college community and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence and inclusive leadership.

“This victory is a collective one. Together, we will chart a bold and progressive course for our college and its transmutation, ensuring its continued prominence on the global stage,” he remarked

The college community anticipates a seamless transition as Professor Olufemi Idowu prepares to build on the legacy of outgoing Provost, Professor Abiodun Adewuya.

The College Community has expressed optimism that the new leadership will further elevate the institution’s reputation as a leading medical education and research hub.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM congratulates the new Provost on his election and wishes him a successful tenure ahead.

We are LASU, we are Great!
