Three Olabisi Onabanjo University students lost their lives, and two others were injured in a tragic car accident attributed to overspeeding along the Ago-Iwoye–Ilisan road, prompting condolences from the university and an ongoing police investigation.
Three students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, lost their lives in a fatal car accident on Friday, December 20, along the Ago-Iwoye–Ilisan road, while two others sustained injuries.
The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. and was attributed to overspeeding. Superintendent of Police (SP) Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer of Ogun State, confirmed the incident, identifying the vehicle as an Opel Safira with the license plate Lagos AAA-126HE, driven by Adekunkle Adebiyi. The car reportedly lost control and veered into the bushes.
A male student died on the spot, and his body was taken to the General Hospital in Ijebu Ode. Two female students, Dada Oluwanifesimi, 18, a sophomore in Mass Communication, and Miracle Ogo Oluwa Daniel, 19, a junior, were rushed to Love and Care Hospital but tragically passed away during treatment. Two other students injured in the crash are receiving care at the OOU Medical Centre.
The Vice-Chancellor of OOU, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the students, identified as Nifesimi Dada (300-Level Geology), Opeyemi Joshua (200-Level Taxation), and Miracle Daniel (200-Level Mass Communication). In a statement issued by the university spokesperson, Wale Balogun, Prof. Agboola extended heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and pledged support during this difficult time.
The police have recovered the vehicle involved in the crash and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
