In a remarkable act of generosity, Engr. Chukwudi Egwu Fidelis, an alumnus of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, has awarded ₦750,000 in scholarships to five students—four from the Faculty of Engineering and one from the Faculty of Arts.

This financial support, facilitated through his CEF Scholarship Foundation based in the United States, aims to ease the students’ academic burden.
The initiative was made possible through the efforts of Associate Professor Azaka Onyemazu Andrew, the immediate past Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Deputy Director II at the Center for Solar and Alternative Energy Research, UNIZIK. He also serves as the Convener of the ASUU-NAU Students Relations, Education & Scholarship Committee.
During the official presentation of award letters, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Engr. Prof. Ugochukwu Okonkwo, expressed his appreciation for the initiative. Marking his first day in office, he congratulated the recipients, each receiving ₦150,000, and lauded the donor for giving back to the university community. He emphasized that this aligns with his vision of fostering stronger alumni engagement in student development.
While introducing the beneficiaries, Associate Professor Azaka highlighted that Engr. Chukwudi, a 2016/2017 graduate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, initiated this scholarship to support struggling students. The selection process involved a competitive application and screening exercise conducted by the committee to ensure transparency and merit-based selection.
He further announced that the award will become an annual scholarship, as Engr. Chukwudi has pledged to sustain and possibly expand the initiative in the coming years.
