NYSC Free Medical Services Records Over 4 Million Beneficiaries In 11 Years – DG

No fewer than Four Million indigent Nigerians have benefited from the free medical outreaches carried out by the National Youth Service Corps between 2014 and 2025.

This was disclosed by the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu while flagging off the second quarter 2025 Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers at Gidan Mangoro Community of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Represented at the event by the Scheme’s Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr Ahmed Wada Ikaka, the Director General said the healthcare intervention was part of NYSC’s contributions to government’s effort in addressing medical challenges faced by the Rural dwellers.

While appreciating friends and partners who had been relentless in supporting NYSC on this mission, General Nafiu called for better collaboration to ensure the sustenance of the quarterly exercise, for the benefit of more citizens who cannot offset hospital bills.

He further commended Corps Doctors, Nurses, Laboratory Scientists, Pharmacists and other paramedics for their commitment and selfless service to humanity through the HIRD programme.

He equally applauded other categories of Corps Members for their contributions to nation-building in all ramifications, and urged them to sustain the tempo.

Earlier, the Director, Community Development Service and Special Projects of the NYSC, Dr Yahaya Ahidjo urged inhabitants of Gidan Mangoro community to take full advantage of the free medical outreach, by availing themselves of the services provided by the Corps Medical personnel.

Also speaking, the Dakachi of Gidan Mangoro, His Royal Highness Musa Magaji, who spoke on behalf of the community said the programme was the first of its kind to be held in his community, adding that it would immensely benefit his subjects.

The Royal Father thanked NYSC immensely for taking medical services to the doorsteps of the people in his domain, and prayed for God’s blessings for the Corps Members for using their service year to touch people’s lives positively in numerous ways.
