In a statement, Access Bank mentioned that this initiative follows last year’s successful project, where the bank built 30 blocks of two classrooms each during the 2023 tournament. With this new phase, Access Bank aims to double the student enrolment at the Access Bank Fifth Chukker School.
To date, the institution has provided quality education and social welfare to about 14,000 children, significantly benefiting the local community.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Access Bank’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Roosevelt Ogbonna, explained that this project is part of a broader mission to enhance educational opportunities for underprivileged children and reduce poverty across Africa.
Ogbonna remarked: “Nigeria is facing a significant challenge with over 12 million children out of school, many of whom are in the northern region. This harsh reality drives us to act, converting despair into hope, and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to dream and achieve.
“In line with our mission to promote prosperity across Africa, we are excited to commence the construction of 60 additional classrooms, which will soon be filled with the sounds of children learning. These classrooms will be more than just structures; they will be havens of hope where thousands of children’s dreams are nurtured, and futures are shaped. We will continue collaborating with our partners to create a brighter, more equitable future for African children.”
Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, praised Access Bank, Fifth Chukker, and UNICEF for their dedication to improving education in the state. He assured that Kaduna would continue to contribute to reducing the number of out-of-school children in the region.
He stated: “Kaduna State is grateful to have partners like Access Bank, Fifth Chukker, and UNICEF as we work to provide our children with quality education. We believe every child has the right to formal education, and we look forward to more groundbreaking projects.”
