The Anambra State Government, through the Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), has officially announced the immediate termination of the “Monday Sit-at-Home” practice across the state. This directive follows a decision reached during the State Executive Council (Exco) Retreat held on January 21, 2026.

In an executive order dated January 22, 2026, and signed by the Board Secretary, Hon. Mgbemena Loveline E., the government declared that the protracted Monday sit-at-home is now abolished. The order was issued under the authority of the Executive Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo (CFR).
The state government has introduced severe financial consequences for civil servants and educational staff who fail to report to their duty posts. According to the memo:
- Salary Deductions: Any staff (both tutorial and non-tutorial) who fails to attend school or the office on Mondays will face a drastic reduction in pay.
- Total Forfeiture: Depending on the severity of the non-compliance, affected staff may receive only 20% of their monthly salary or forfeit the entire salary for that period.
Target Audience and Implementation
The order is addressed to all Permanent Board Members, Officers in Charge of the 21 LGEAs, Zonal Directors, and Departmental Directors at the ASUBEB Headquarters in Awka. These officials have been tasked with ensuring that all staff under their supervision are fully informed and that compliance is strictly enforced.
The government emphasizes that this is an “Executive Decision” and expects immediate adherence to restore full productivity to the start of the work week in Anambra State.
