Covenant University Student Clinches Gold in Commonwealth Essay Competition

Covenant University is celebrating the remarkable achievement of Miss Christianah Temitope Adeboye, who has won the prestigious Gold medal in the Commonwealth Essay Competition.

This victory marks a significant milestone for the young scholar, who initially viewed winning the competition as an unattainable dream. However, inspired by the success fellow student who secured a silver medal last year, Christianah was motivated to give it another try.

The journey to victory was not without its challenges. As Christianah approached the final deadline, she found herself racing against time, submitting her entry just two minutes before the midnight cut-off, at 11:59 PM. With her eligibility expiring soon, as she is just few months shy of turning 18, she felt the weight of the moment as she hit ‘send.’

Her joy was immeasurable when she learned of her success, placing her among a select group of Nigerian winners in this prestigious competition.

During a recent Thursday Chapel Service, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, introduced Christianah to the congregation, highlighting her resilience and the strong Covenant University spirit that propelled her to this achievement. He emphasized that her win exemplifies the core values of the University, particularly the possibility mentality championed in the school’s 5.0 Agenda.

Professor Adebayo encouraged other students to elevate their efforts and aspire for excellence, reminding them of the importance of spirituality alongside academic pursuits.

In reflecting on her accomplishment, Christianah credited the diligence and sacrifice core values of Covenant University for her late-night study sessions, which she has maintained since she was 13. Her dedication ultimately paid off, culminating in a victory that not only honors her but also brings pride to the entire University community.
