“Going out to study can never be a problem to anybody,” says Minister of Education

CURSORY

  • The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has voiced out his thoughts on Nigerian students going to study outside Nigeria.
  • He also speaks on the ongoing ASUU strike and the offer the government has made to lecturers.

The Minister of Education in an interview with Channels TV on Wednesday, 7th September stated that he doesn’t find anything wrong with Nigerian students going to other African countries to study.

Reports show that about 75,000 Nigerians are currently doing their undergraduate studies in Ghana, Benin Republic and Egypt.

When asked about it, he goes on to say that it’s not a new thing.

“It is not a bad reputation in the sense that people going out to study is not a bad thing. The only thing you have to say is that our universities should try to attract students so that instead of money going out, money will come in,” he said.

He also stated that contrary to popular believes, Nigeria’s education system is not to be blamed for parents making the choice to send their kids abroad for education.

Speaking on the current ASUU strike, he said that the government has made an offer to lecturers.

He assures that if the lecturers accept the offer it will not be paid in installments.
