Gov Sule Rewards 50 FULafia First Class Graduates

The Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, has rewarded 50 first class graduates of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) with a one month skills acquisition training at the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technical Institute in Lafia.

The governor also announced a start -up capital of N500,000 to each of the students after the training to enable them establish their business.

Governor Sule made the offer at the occasion of the 6th, 7th and 8th combined convocation ceremonies of FULafia, in Lafia.

He said that the graduates have the opportunity to undergo a one month training at the vocational and technical institute where they can choose among 12 different areas of skills that include welding and fabrication, air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical installation and carpentry.

Sule urged the Management of FULafia to take advantage of the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technical Institute to engage their students to acquire skills for self-development.

He congratulated the University for conducting the convocation ceremony, urging the graduates to put to use the knowledge and skills they have acquired during their stay in the University for their career development and add value to education in country.

He said that since the establishment of the University in 2011, successive administrations in Nasarawa State have supported the institution through various interventions including the donation of 205 hectares of land now serving as the permanent site of the University and the donation of the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia, to serve as FULafia teaching hospital.

The governor said that no amount of investment and sacrifice can be too much in education, saying that education is the most enduring legacy any government can endow to the younger generations.

He said that his administration recognised the value of education, noting that it was for that reason that Nasarawa State accords the highest sectoral percentages of its budget to the education sector.

The governor pointed out that the giant strides recorded by the University since its inception was an eloquent testimony of the collective determination of staff to work in harmony to conquer societal backwardness.

While congratulating the Emir of Mubi, HRH Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Isa Ahmadu, on his recent appointment as the Chancellor of FULafia, Sule called on the graduates to view their certificates as more than mere meal tickets.
