High School Student’s Diploma Withheld Due to Unpaid $15 Laptop Repair Fee

Cursory: A high school student Ellie McCormick’s viral TikTok video revealed that her diploma was withheld due to an unpaid $15 laptop repair fee, despite the disappointment, McCormick remained positive. This incident is reminiscent of a similar situation at Washington State University where a student faced the risk of not receiving their diploma due to an unpaid balance of 1 cent.

A high school student from Nebraska shared a disappointing experience on TikTok, explaining that she was unable to receive her diploma during the graduation ceremony due to an unpaid laptop repair fee of $15.

In her viral video, Ellie McCormick showcased a pink-colored paper that demanded payment for the outstanding fee.

“Your diploma has been pulled until you have paid your laptop repair fee. Please see the amount below…,” part of the pink slip read.At the very bottom of the paper, the graduate’s full name was shown next to “$15 fee – Laptop Repair” in all caps.

Despite the disappointing moment, McCormick was all smiles while wearing her green cap and gown — captioning the vid, “Hot girls get a pink diploma anyway.”

Ellie McCormick, a high school graduate, shared in a viral video that she was required to pay a $15 fee because she had lost her laptop bag during her freshman year.

Despite this setback, McCormick was able to participate in the graduation ceremony and walk across the stage. However, she did not receive her certificate of completion.

This incident echoes a previous situation in February when another student at Washington State University faced a similar experience, where an unpaid balance of just 1 cent almost jeopardized their chances of receiving their diploma.

Katie Lane received an email notifying her of a small unpaid balance on her student account, which caused her to feel anxious. Fortunately, a university spokesperson reassured Lane and other students that their diplomas would not be withheld due to unpaid balances.
