Kayode Adewale, a Mathematics and Science Technology teacher from Ogun State and founder of a Space Exploration Club, has been named a top 50 finalist for the $1 million Global Teacher Prize for his innovative teaching methods, with plans to use the prize for capacity-building, underserved communities, and educational technology.

Kayode Adewale, a Mathematics and Information and Science Technology teacher from Ogun State, has been named one of the top 50 finalists for the prestigious $1 million Global Teacher Prize.

Adewale, who teaches at Imaka/Imagbon Comprehensive High School in Odogbolu Local Government Area, Ogun State, gained recognition for his innovative teaching methods and dedication to educational development. In an interview, he shared his journey, achievements, and plans for the prize money if he wins.

Adewale is not just a teacher but also a science educator and founder of the Space Exploration Club at his school. His dedication to fostering innovation and learning has earned him numerous accolades.

In 2020, he was named the Best Senior Secondary School Teacher in Ogun State and received a reward of ₦2.5 million from Governor Dapo Abiodun. He used part of the reward to renovate his school’s multipurpose laboratory, transforming it into a STEM laboratory for training both students and teachers.

In 2023, he was recognized as the third-best teacher in Nigeria. He has also participated in prestigious international programs, including the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Programme in the US and the Limitless Space Global Educators Programme in Houston, Texas.

If awarded the Global Teacher Prize, Adewale intends to allocate the money towards impactful educational initiatives. He outlined his plans:

1. 20%: A capacity-building program for the top 10 finalists of the Global Teacher Prize.

2. 20%: Raising awareness about the Global Teacher Prize across Africa.

3. 10%: Supporting students in underserved communities in Nigeria.

4. 10%: Establishing an innovation hub at his school in Imagbon Ijebu, equipped with modern technology to inspire students and demonstrate the transformative power of education.

5. 40%: Developing technology-assisted instructional management solutions and implementing his “Transformation 1,090” program, which aims to train 10 teachers in each of Nigeria’s 109 senatorial districts.

Adewale’s innovative efforts have inspired other teachers in Ogun State to establish Space Exploration Clubs in their schools, in collaboration with the Limitless Space Institute in Houston, Texas.

His journey reflects the transformative potential of dedication, creativity, and a commitment to excellence in education. Adewale’s achievements serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for educators in Nigeria and beyond.
