Ogun Headmaster Arrested for Alleged Abuse of Pupil, Government Rescues Four-Year-Old Victim

The Ogun State government has arrested a private school headmaster for allegedly abusing a female pupil and has also rescued a four-year-old boy from severe assault, reaffirming its commitment to combating child abuse and gender-based violence.

The Ogun State government has confirmed the arrest of Mr. Ashafa Afelaja, the headmaster of a private school in Eyin Ogbe, Igode near Ogijo, for allegedly abusing a female pupil. The arrest followed a report by a concerned citizen, prompting swift intervention by authorities.

State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, disclosed the development in a statement, stating that the ministry’s rescue team had intervened in Adamo, Ikorodu, a border community, where the accused allegedly assaulted the pupil. Adeleye assured the public that the victim is receiving medical care and psychological support while the suspect remains in police custody. She emphasized the government’s commitment to securing justice for all survivors of abuse and urged citizens to report cases of child abuse, domestic violence, and other forms of human maltreatment.

She reaffirmed that the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun maintains a zero-tolerance policy for gender-based violence, child abuse, and domestic violence. The state government continues to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure swift action against perpetrators.

In a separate incident, officials from the ministry rescued a four-year-old boy in Igboko, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, who was reportedly assaulted by his father. The child has been placed under the protective custody of the ministry, where he is receiving medical care and emotional support.

Commissioner Adeleye confirmed that the alleged perpetrator is in police custody, with legal proceedings underway. She called on the public to support government efforts in eliminating all forms of abuse and ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals.
