A Mobile Money Subscriber Company, Opay will donate N300,000 Scholarship each to 20 students of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.


The Chief Public Affairs Officer of the company, Mr. Justin Zhang, disclosed this today when he paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala in his office.
Zhang said they started the project last year with University of Lagos and University of Calabar to renovate some buildings.
He noted that Opay company will offer scholarships to 400 students in the country for a period of ten years, (20 each year), and that they have selected Ahmadu Bello University in the North, University of Ibadan in the South West and Nnamdi Azikwe University in the South East.
The Chief Public Affairs Officer disclosed that they also want to donate 20,000 US Dollars to the community for women empowerment and skills acquisition.
He expressed the readiness of the company to take more social responsibilities, stressing that they want to stay in ABU for too long.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala thanked Mr. Zhang for giving ABU students the opportunity to benefit from the scholarship scheme.
The Vice-Chancellor identified renovation or expansion of the University health centre, maintenance of faculties of Engineering and Sciences and upgrade of ICT facilities as some of the projects to be considered by the company.
