UI Is Ready For New Programmes—UI DVC (Administration)

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), University of Ibadan, Professor Peter Olapegba, has restated the University’s readiness to mount new academic programmes, stressing that the institution has provided the required human and material resources.

Professor Olapegba, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, made this known while receiving officials of the National Universities Commission (NUC) on a resource verification visit to the University.

He noted that although the Institution is not without its limitations, it has made deliberate efforts within available resources to create a conducive environment for learning.

He further emphasized that the University has the required human and other resources necessary for the smooth commencement of the new programmes once approval is granted, adding that the University remains committed to sustaining its reputation for excellence by presenting a true and objective account of its capacity.

Speaking on behalf of the NUC accreditation teams, Professor P. B. Zirra, who is the team lead for the Software Engineering and Information technology programme appreciated the University for its warm reception and hospitality. He explained that the purpose of the resource verification exercise is to validate the facilities and resources presented by the University, stressing that the findings would guide the Commission’s final recommendations.

The programmes under verification include Pharmacology in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Studies as well as Data Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, and Information Technology, all from the newly established Faculty of Computing.

Also on Prof Zirra’s team for the resource verification of the Software Engineering and Information Technology programme is Sympathy Ngalato. Other teams from NUC include Prof Ighodaro Igbe and Tunrayo J.O. Laoso, for the Pharmacology Programme as well as Prof. J.K. Alhassan, Mr Dominic. O.
