UNIMAID Admission Officer Reveals Key Admission Processes and Challenges

The University of Maiduguri admission office has revealed important guidelines for prospective students seeking admission into the institution, highlighting requirements, cut-off marks, and the likely challenges students may encounter in the process of seeking admission into the University.

The Deputy Registrar Admissions, Dr. Ebenezer A. Felix, made this known in an interview with Unimaid Bulletin held recently in his office at the Students Affairs Division where he outlined the procedures and requirements for candidates seeking admission into the university.

According to Dr. Felix, the general requirement for admission into University of Maiduguri is a minimum of five credits in relevant subjects and a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) score of at least 150. He however explained that, the admission requirements vary across faculties, with highly competitive programmes; especially in the College of Medical Sciences and Law requiring candidates to score 200 and above.

He disclosed that the University operates on a quota system designed to give fair consideration to candidates on the basis of merit, those from the catchment area and a certain percentage to educationally less-developed states (ELDS). The Deputy Registrar further explained that the admission process is now 100% digitalized, which has streamlined operations, reduced corruption, and made processes such as registration and fee payment easier for students.

Dr Felix identified poor compliance by candidates as a major challenge faced by the Admissions Office as many applicants fail to upload their O-Level results or in some instances apply for courses that do not match their qualifications, which often leads to the loss of their admission slots.

Dr. Felix therefore, advised prospective students to ensure that all required information and documents are correctly inputed and uploaded. Candidates should also ensure that their subjects combination and examination scores match their chosen courses. He also urged candidates to regularly check the university’s website and the admissions portal to stay informed and avoid missing admission opportunities
