240 Bags First Class As FUTA Holds 36TH Convocation

240 of the 2,747 graduating students that will be awarded first degrees during the 36th Convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Technology of Akure, FUTA will bag First Class.

The Vice Chancellor FUTA , Professor Adenike Oladiji, stated this on Friday 7th November, 2025 at a press briefing heralding the convocation ceremony. She said 1,479 will be graduating in the Second Class Upper category , 912 Second Class Lower and 116 Third Class. Akindunbi Aduragbemi Isaac of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering emerged the Best Graduating student with a CGPA of 4.98/5.0. He will give the valedictory speech on behalf of his set on Friday November 14,2025.

Similarly, Professor Oladiji said eight hundred and sixty-seven graduands will be awarded the higher degrees of the university with 86 in the Post Graduate Diploma ,PGD category, 627 in the Master of Technology, MTech category, and 154 for Doctor of Philosophy ,PhD on Saturday , November 15,2025.

According to the Vice Chancellor ,the Convocation Lecture titled “Strategies and Tactics for Solving Skills Challenges in Nigeria: The Roles of Government, Institutions and the Youth,” is to the delivered by Prince Adetokunbo Kayode (SAN), a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Former Minister of Labour of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Friday 14th November, 2025 as an integral part of the award of First Degrees.

Professor Oladiji who titled her address “FUTA at the next level” said looking at the trajectory of the past three years, one truth becomes undeniable: FUTA has been successfully repositioned for a sustainable future. This administration has laid a foundation built on academic excellence, financial sustainability, global competitiveness, and inclusive growth. It is a future that seeks to empower staff, inspire students, strengthen communities, and further put Nigeria on the global map of innovation and research.”
Speaking further Professor Oladiji added that under her watch, FUTA has strengthened its global presence through active research collaborations and international exchanges. Faculty and researchers undertook study and research visits to Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany, enhancing their expertise and fostering cross-border knowledge sharing.

Dwelling on international collaborations, the Vice Chancellor informed journalists that through strengthened international collaborations, active research engagements, and global alumni connections, FUTA has expanded its influence and visibility beyond national borders. She added that recognition through awards, patents, and competitive achievements in sports, research, and innovation attests to the University’s growing impact on society and the global academic community.

She said that FUTA’s has made strides in global partnerships and collaborations, which have broadened its reach and visibility.
Professor Oladiji said FUTA has partnership with the industries and related research institutions and relevant organisations like Green Energy International Limited, and LekOil Joint Venture (JV), under the aegis of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB in a joint research initiative to advance hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation in the Otakikpo Field, Niger Delta. It is a five-year project with staff of the University serving as Lead Researchers.

Professor Oladiji commended the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who is the Visitor to the university for approving a teaching hospital for the University to train students in medical and allied fields as well as granting a one billion naira (N1,000,000,000.00) Federal Government special intervention for Agricultural commercial farming in addition to the Students Loan Fund (NELFUND) which is helping indigent students. She said these interventions have raised the bar for the institution to train people in medical field and also tackle hunger through mass production of food to enhance food security in addition to helping students.

She equally commended all stakeholders in FUTA saying “it is important to also, at this juncture, express my deep appreciation to members of staff, academic and non-academic, of this great institution for their hard work cooperation, camaraderie and peace building efforts which have given us the right atmosphere to thrive. Our students have been wonderful and have always walked the way of peace and peaceful resolutions of issues. I also commend our Alumni for their support and general contributions to the development of the institution. The Governing council led by Distinguished Senator Nora Daduut continue to be worthy partners in progress.”

Concluding the Vice Chancellor said, “FUTA is now a key player in the global academic arena. It is living up to its billing as one of the country’s leading citadels of academic excellence and destination of choice where cutting-edge research and product development tailored to address societal needs have become a culture and the norm. Join us as we celebrate excellence during the 36th Convocation Ceremony.”
