Zoey Williams, a 27-year-old hailing from Ontario, Canada, who has recently etched her name in history as Air Canada’s inaugural Black female pilot to command a Boeing 777. Adding to her accolades, she also secured a spot among the prestigious Top 20 Under 40 list by Wings Magazine.
Raised as the daughter of a pilot, Zoey’s formative years were filled with globe-trotting adventures. Initially hesitant about following in her father’s footsteps due to the unpredictable nature of piloting schedules, she initially gravitated towards the engineering aspect of aviation.
However, a pivotal moment occurred during a flight on a Cessna, this moment scared the young lady, she took it upon herself to pursue flight training, confronting her fears. By the age of 19, Zoey had obtained her certification as a flight instructor.
Throughout her career, Zoey navigated various roles within the aviation sector, including handling the Beechcraft 1900 in challenging conditions. She made significant strides as a First Officer for Sky Regional Airlines before transitioning to Air Transat.
Despite the setbacks posed by the pandemic, Zoey remained resilient. She pursued an MBA in Aviation from Embry-Riddle while simultaneously delving into diverse ventures, ranging from launching a short-term rental business to piloting a Boeing 737 for Flair Airlines.
Her journey ultimately led her to Air Canada, where she achieved a milestone by piloting flights alongside her father aboard the Boeing 777. Zoey’s contributions have also been acknowledged in videos by Air Canada and the Elevate Aviation 2023 Women of Inspire.
Beyond her aviation career, Zoey is a multi-talented individual, showcasing her musical prowess across various platforms. She is also making strides as an author with her upcoming book, “Go Where You Belong,” aimed at inspiring young minds.
Reflecting on her journey, Zoey offers sage advice: “If you have a burning desire to do something, don’t bury it. Keep your focus, build your networks, share your goals, and show your passion in everything you do. That’s how you can end up doing things you love day in and day out.”
