OOU Introduces 20 New Courses As 115 Bag First Class

Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, announced the introduction of 20 new academic programmes on Thursday.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, announced the new courses, which include Cyber Security, Forensic Science, Data Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Estate Management, Building Technology, and Software Engineering, among others.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the institution’s 34th convocation ceremony scheduled for next week, the VC said the new courses were designed to keep the university in line with emerging global trends and prepare students for the evolving job market.

Meanwhile, the VC said OOU would be graduating 6,209 undergraduates among whom 115 finished with first class honours.

Agboola said, “A total number of 6,209 undergraduates, including 5793 (regular) and 416 (part-time), will convocate for 2023/2024 while 741 postgraduates will be conferred with diplomas and higher degrees, comprising of 571 PGD/Master’s and 170 PhD holders.

“The breakdown of the regular students shows that 115 earned first class, 1,845 were in the Second Class Upper Division, 3,044 were in the Second Class Lower Division, 688 finished with Third Class, 35 had Pass grade while 66 (unclassified) graduated from our medical programmes.”

The Vice-Chancellor also announced Dauda Anuoluwapo of the Economics Department with a CGPA of 4.87 as the overall best graduating student.

Prof Agboola disclosed further that the convocation lecture with the theme “TEFFund and Educational Development in Nigeria: The History, the Treasures and the Future,” will be delivered by the Executive Secretary of TETFund, sunny Echono.
