ASUU Meets Senate to Resolve Strike Over Funding and Land Disputes

The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, ASUU has Meet Senate to Resolve Strike Over Funding and Land Disputes.

As the two weeks warning strike by members of Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities enters day five, it has opened up to the senate on its insistence for improved funding to Universities in Nigeria to facilitate scholarly research, infrastructure development and improved remuneration for staff which it says is the least across Africa.

The current strike which commenced Monday 13th October is with regards to allegations that the minister of the federal capital territory wants to take part of the land belonging to the University of Abuja.

Another issue is the decision by the ministry of education to share part of the 50 billion naira allocated to Universities with polytechnics and colleges of education.

ASUU commended President Tinubu for approving 150 billion naira for Universities in Nigeria and directing seven years moratorium on the establishment of public Tertiary institutions in the country.
As the meeting progresses, the lawmakers are appealing to both sides to reach a point of compromise
