BUK Boosts Green Mobility, Commissions 10 Solar-Powered Tricycles for Campus Transport

In a bold step toward sustainable transportation and a cleaner environment, Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has commissioned ten solar-powered tricycles to enhance mobility across its campuses.

The initiative marks a new era of eco-friendly transportation aimed at easing movement for students and staff while promoting green innovation within the University.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held on Monday, 20th October 2025, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, described the project as a landmark achievement under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government, supported by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). He explained that the solar tricycles are part of the University’s ongoing drive to integrate sustainable technologies into its operations, adding that the move will not only improve campus transportation but also contribute to environmental preservation.

Today, we are delighted to receive ten solar-powered tricycles that will operate within the University to ease transportation challenges for our students and staff. We are also expecting an additional ten soon. With the existing eight petrol-powered tricycles already in operation, a total of twenty-eight tricycles will soon be serving our community,” Professor Haruna stated. He urged members of the University to make responsible use of the vehicles and appreciate the innovation as a collective asset for a better campus experience.

The event was graced by principal officers of the University, including the Deputy Vice Chancellors, Professor Aliyu Muazu and Professor Amina Mustapha, the Registrar, Malam Haruna Aliyu, the Bursar, Malam Rabi’u Dauda, and the University Librarian, Dr. Kabiru Dahiru Abbas.
