Drama at OAUSTECH as Two Students Beg to Overturn Expulsion But Get Denied Again

The Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) Governing Council Upholds Expulsion of Two Animal Production Students

The Governing Council of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) has upheld the expulsion of two students from the Department of Animal Production and Health, School of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, following their appeals against the disciplinary action.

Appeal Outcome

In separate letters dated October 28, 2025, and signed by the University Registrar, Abiodun P. Okunniga, the Governing Council communicated its decision to reject the appeals submitted by the affected students.

The Council stated that after thorough consideration of the reports from the Appeals and Petitions Committee, it found no reasonable grounds to overturn the expulsion orders. The students, identified as Tolulope YUSUF (Matriculation Number: APH/DE/23/002) and Opeyemi Aquila ALE (Matriculation Number: APH/DE/23/001), had sought review of their expulsion from the University.

Grounds for Decision

The Governing Council noted several critical factors in reaching its decision:

The Council observed that despite the students’ condition in their expulsion letters requiring them to “return all University property in their possession to the Head of the Department of Animal Production and Health without delay, and vacate the University premises in full obedience to the expulsion order,” both students violated this directive.

Investigation revealed that contrary to full compliance with the expulsion order, the students sat for second semester examinations of the 2024/2025 academic session while still on expulsion. The Council deemed this “a flagrant violation of extant rules” that “contradicts the tone of their remorsefulness and also constitutes further gross misconduct.”

Full Compliance Required

The Registrar emphasized that the expulsion by the University subsists and must be fully complied with immediately. All relevant University functionaries, as well as the parents and guardians of the affected students, have been informed to ensure full compliance with the Governing Council’s decision.

Copies of the decision letters have been distributed to key university officials including the Vice-Chancellor, University Librarian, Bursar, Acting Dean of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs, Director of Academic Planning, Acting Head of Department of Animal Production and Health, Chief Security Officer, Deputy Director of Information and Protocol, Acting Head of ICT Unit, and Legal Services Unit.

University’s Position

The decision underscores the University’s commitment to upholding discipline and maintaining the integrity of its academic regulations. By sitting for examinations while under expulsion, the students demonstrated what the Council characterized as continued misconduct that warranted the rejection of their appeals.

The affected students and their families are expected to comply fully with the expulsion order, including the immediate return of all University property and vacating University premises.
