FUD Council Appoints Professor Gumel As New Vice Chancellor

Federal University Dutse, FUD has appointed Professor Gumel As New Vice Chancellor.

The 4th Governing Council of the Federal University Dutse at its Extraordinary Meeting held on the 13th December, 2025 has approved the appointment of Professor Ahmed Muhammed Gumel as the 4th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university effective from 10th of February, 2026.

The Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Shuaibu Oba Abdulraheem, OFR, NPOM, said the selection process followed a rigorous and meticulous process in which 21 applicants were short-listed and interviewed at the end of which Professor Gumel emerged as the New VC.

He congratulated the new VC and prayed to Allah to guide him in the discharge of his duties.

The Vice-Chancellor designate, Professor Gumel in his remark, thanked almighty Allah for his emergence as the new VC. He also extended his gratitude to the joint selection team, the Chairman of the Governing Council, incumbent VC and the entire council of the university for the confidence reposed in him, adding that he will strive to do his best to build on the outstanding achievements of the current VC.

BRIEF PROFILE

Prof. Ahmad Mohammed Gumel is an Alumnus of University Malaya in Malaysia, where he received Master of Biotechnology and Ph.D in Industrial Biotechnology with specialization in Biocatalysis and Bioprocess technology in 2009 and 2013, respectively. He was also a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Malaya, Malaysia in 2014.

Professor Gumel also has a Professional Master Degree in Public Policy and Administration (MPPA), an Advance Diploma in Education, Diploma in Data Processing and Information Technology and Certificate in Advance Digital Appreciation Training (ADAPT).

He is an award winning Scholar whose PhD thesis got Distinction in University of Malaya.

Professor Gumel is an International Researcher with TWO INTERNATIONAL PATENTS AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES

• Shape memory and Ph responsive hydrogels (Application No. PI2014700071) Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia.
• Novel medium-chain-length Poly (3-hydroxyalkanoates)-co-(6-hydroxyhexanoates) based hydrogel for wound healing patches (Application No. PI2013150232) Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia.

He has over 45 publications ISI journals, book chapters and conference proceedings. He has published four books. He has supervised 7 Ph.D. students, 14 M.Sc students, 4 Postgraduate Diploma students and 28 undergraduate students.

Prof. Gumel is a registered Biotechnologist, a Board

Member of International Institute of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering, member Nigeria Society for Biotechnology, member European Federation of Biotechnology, member Asian Federation of Biotechnology, member Society for Biological Engineering USA, member Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering Society.

He is a research consultant to Alpha Sights, 58 Davies Street, London, W1K 5JF, United Kingdom. He has been a top notch reviewer and a board member of several international peer reviewed journals. He has attracted several research grants to the university.

Gumel joined the services of Federal University Dutse in 2015 where he held administrative positions of Level Coordinator, Departmental Postgraduate Coordinator, Head of Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Dean Students Affairs and currently serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Central Administration among several others.

He is a team player who has demonstrated transformational leadership at every position of responsibility given to him. He has over 34 awards and recognitions in appreciation of his services to the University community and beyond.

He has attended conferences and workshops in the USA, China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey, Oman among others. He is married with children.
