“Our Curriculum Should Be Skill-based To Address Insecurity, Crimes” -IMAP Acting Rector, Dr. Maifata

The Acting Rector, Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic Lafia, Dr. Nurudeen Mu’azu Maifata CLN, MNLA, FIICA, has made a case for a partial review of the nation’s educational curriculum to address insecurity issues with skills development.

Dr. Maifata said the review of the curriculum to be skill-based would provide opportunities for citizens to acquire basic skills for development.

He made the advocacy during a one-day stakeholders summit by the National Orientation Agency on security and get-rich-quick syndrome held Lafia.

He disclosed that reviewing it at all levels of education would not only address insecurity but provide a vista of opportunities for young people to have skills and become employers of labour instead of job seekers that are susceptible to crime and criminality.

While commenting on get-rich-quick syndrome, the Acting Rector posited that parents have a big task in their children’s upbringing, noting that the failure in proper child development has marred the society’s ability to deliver in curb the tide of national challenges.

In their remarks, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Federal University of Lafia, Prof. Ali Shugaba, State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Priscilla Gondu-aluor, cautioned youths not to pursue unethical dreams that would impact negatively on the society, encouraging to involve themselves actively in national development.

The summit was attended by youth groups, security agencies, traditional rulers, the media among other stakeholders.
