A young Nigerian graduate was left heartbroken after his family refused to attend his convocation because he earned a 2:1 instead of the First Class they had always demanded, turning what should have been a joyful milestone into a painful memory.

A young Nigerian graduate has shared a deeply emotional account of how what should have been one of the proudest days of his life turned into a painful memory. According to him, his family deliberately chose not to attend his convocation ceremony simply because he finished with a Second Class Upper degree instead of the First Class they had always demanded from him.
He revealed that throughout his years in school, his family made it clear that only a First Class degree would make them truly proud, and they constantly pressured him to meet that expectation. Despite putting in enormous effort, sleepless nights, and doing his best academically, he narrowly missed that top grade.
Instead of acknowledging his hard work and celebrating his success, his family’s disappointment led them to withdraw their support on the very day he hoped to share with them. Their absence left him feeling hurt, abandoned, and unappreciated, turning his convocation into a moment of sadness rather than achievement.
His story has since sparked discussions online, with many people expressing sympathy and condemning the unrealistic pressure some families place on their children.
