Trinity University, located in Lagos, has secured the full endorsement of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, to run a bachelor’s degree programme in accounting as a professional course.

The approval, which is for the duration of four years beginning with the 2022\2023 academic session, will be due for renewal thereafter.
Head of Corporate Affairs unit of the university, Michael Bamigbola, made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the office of the Registrar/Chief Executive of ICAN conveyed the approval news to the university.
Speaking on the development, the acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Clement Kolawole, expressed happiness over the accreditation, saying it is a testament to the quality of academic programmes and personnel as well as facilities that the university paraded.
He said professionalism is one of the core values of Trinity University as it ensures that all lecturers in the Accounting Department, for example, are chartered in addition to their academic qualifications.
He added that, as a matter of policy, the university would ensure that every student across disciplines has obtained at least two internationally recognized certifications in their respective fields of study before graduation.
He said this would enable them to become fit-for-purpose graduates anywhere they are globally.
In her own remark, the acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences of the university, Dr Folakemi Ohunakin, said the accreditation is well-deserved, considering the university’s huge investment in human, material and time resources for the production of total graduates across disciplines.
She explained that the ICAN accreditation is to complement the academic recognition earlier given by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to run an accounting programme as a professional course.
She said accounting students and graduates of the university would benefit greatly from the development.
She, however, promised that the university would continue to uphold the standards and ethics of the accounting profession and other disciplines.
