The University of Ibadan has demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence as it successfully concluded the three-day award of first degree to graduands as part of activities marking the 77th Convocation and Foundation Day Ceremonies.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor K.O. Adebowale, FAS, mni, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to producing graduates who stand out anywhere in the world and urged the graduands to carry forward the values of discipline, integrity, and excellence for which the institution is known.
The ceremonies, which held from Tuesday, 11 November to Thursday, 13 November 2025, brought together thousands of guests, families, friends, and well-wishers in celebration of the academic achievements of students across all faculties.
A total of 5,900 graduands with first degree over the period three days, including students from the Distance Learning Centre and affiliated institutions.
Graduands were recognized across 16 faculties of the University including of Arts, Science, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dentistry, Public Health, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Social Sciences, Veterinary Medicine and Law. Others include Technology, Economics and Management Sciences, Renewable and Natural Resources, Education, and Environmental Design and Management.
Across the three days, 321 students were awarded with first-class honors, distributed across faculties and Centres as follows: Arts with sixty-eight; Science with fifty; Basic Medical Sciences with three; Clinical Sciences with nine; Public Health with three; Distance Learning Centre with thirty-six; Affiliated Institutions with sixty-eight; Agriculture with twenty-four; Social Sciences with thirty-four; Technology with sixty; Law with twenty-eight; Economics and Management Sciences with eleven; Renewable Natural Resources with nine; Education with forty-three; and Environmental Design and Management with two.
The three-day first-degree convocation ceremonies featured distinguished speakers and alumni of the University, which included Dr. Abel Kehinde Adegoke, a GP Principal at the Hamilton Medical Centre, Birkenhead, Wirral, UK, Mrs. Bola Olajomi-Otubu, a Human Resources expert, holding senior leadership roles across various sectors of the Nigerian economy and currently in the construction industry and Dr. Charles Tolulope Akinsete, a poet, researcher, teacher and mentor in the University of Ibadan.
In their respective remarks, these distinguished alumni encouraged the graduands to uphold resilience, discipline, integrity, and ethical leadership; to embrace continuous learning, innovation, and service to humanity; and to use their knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to national and global development. They urged graduands to pursue excellence, remain adaptable, and carry forward the values for which the University of Ibadan is renowned.
The ceremonies also recognized outstanding individuals through honorary awards, faculty prizes, departmental awards, scholarships, and research fellowships. The University highlighted its top national ranking in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings and emphasized the continued growth of its postgraduate programs and Distance Learning Centre.
The successful completion of the three-day award of first-degree convocation ceremonies once again underscored the University of Ibadan’s reputation as a leading institution committed to nurturing disciplined, innovative, and globally competitive graduates.
Professor Adebowale expressed confidence that the Class of 2025 will uphold the University’s legacy of excellence and continue to distinguish themselves in all spheres of life.
