The University of Jos confirmed that two students were killed and others injured during recent unrest in Jos North, while assuring improved security and maintaining its April 13 resumption date.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, has confirmed that two students of the institution lost their lives during the recent unrest in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
He made this known during a press briefing in Jos, explaining that the violence began on March 29 when gunmen attacked the Angwan Rukuba community, an area where many students and staff reside. Several people were killed and others injured in the attack. A 48-hour curfew was imposed by the state government, but violence later spread to other areas after it was lifted on April 1.
According to the Vice Chancellor, four students and one staff member were affected in total. Two students died, while the remaining victims are receiving treatment in the hospital and are responding well.
The deceased students were identified as Abel Gershon, a 300-level Building student, and Adeyomo Temitope, a 500-level Quantity Surveying student. Gershon sustained gunshot injuries on March 29 and later died on April 5 at the Jos University Teaching Hospital. Temitope was attacked along Bauchi Road on April 1 and was killed during the violence.
Prof. Ishaya expressed condolences to the families of the victims and reassured the public that security has been strengthened within the university and surrounding communities. He emphasized that none of the university’s campuses have been directly attacked.
He also confirmed that the university’s resumption date of April 13 remains unchanged, urging students to return to complete their first semester exams and begin the next academic session.
