The Vice-Chancellor,  Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM has told the newly admitted students of the institution that the university has all it takes to make them succeed and become great leaders that would make an impact on Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.

This message was contained in her address at the 2023/2024 Academic Session Orientation Programme held on Tuesday, 20th February 2024.

She addressed the students at the Buba Marwa Auditorium and the Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Centre, main campus, Ojo, Lagos.

In the words of the Vice Chancellor, “LASU has what it takes to make you succeed in your respective course of study. Your welfare is top on our priority as we will ensure that the university environment remains conducive to learning. Your security in and around the university is paramount. We are here to register our commitment as a university to the development of our leaders of tomorrow.”

She acknowledged that the orientation programme was organised to familiarise the students with their rights as well as their responsibilities, adding that some of the things to be talked about were already contained in the student’s handbook. She asked the students to familiarise themselves with the book.

Speaking further, the LASU Numero Uno stated some of the things the University already put in place to make their academic sojourn worthwhile, which include; a well equipped Library; steady power supply to assist those who wish to study at night do so and a 50% refund of school fees for scholars, with CGPA of 4.75 every academic session, amongst others.

The Counselling and Careers Unit as well as the LASU Career Development Centre could play vital roles in advising on the best career path while the Directorate of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship could help them acquire new skills and enhance those who already possess some level of skills.

She advised the students that aside from academics, they should make use of the sporting facilities, not just for physical fitness but to hone their talents. She reminded the students to cultivate good habits, as the university has zero tolerance for indiscipline, and they must adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the university.

It behooves you, to behave decently within and outside the university environment, strive for academic excellence, and resists the urge to partake in unwholesome acts, and at the end of your programme, you will not only be proud of yourself but we and your family members will also be proud of you. Once again, I congratulate our world-class students on the occasion of this orientation programme,” Professor Olatunji-Bello signed out.
