Five academic staff of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, has been ranked among top 2% scientists in the world by Elsevier and Stanford University, United States of America.


In the data released by Elsevier on 16th September, 2024, the scholars were among 233 scientists in Nigeria that were ranked for their scholarly publications and outstanding research output in Scopus. Elsevier is a leading international publisher of scientific, technical and medical (STM) literature founded in 1880. Elsevier is one of the largest and most prestigious publishers of scholarly journals, books and databases.
According to the publication, Dr. Ukwuaja Kingsley of the Department of Internal Medicine, College of Medical Sciences was ranked 25 in Nigeria and 43, 008 in the world respectively with162 papers in Scopus while Prof. Okereke Chukwumerije of the Department of Political Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences was ranked 42 in Nigeria and 63, 614 in the world with70 publications in Scopus.
Dr. Eieazu Chinedum O of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Physical Sciences was rated 66 in Nigeria and 105, 352 in the world with 68 papers in Scopus; and Dr, Onyeneke Robert Ugochukwu of the Department of Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture ranked 178 in Nigeria and 315, 896 in the world with 51 publications in Scopus while Dr. Anadebe Valentine Chikaodili of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Physical Sciences was ranked 215 in Nigeria and 504, 117 in the world with 41 papers in Scopus.
While commending the research accomplishments of the 5 scholars, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sunday Elom noted that their achievements have underscored the seriousness of the university’s academic activities, adding that their feats have also enhanced the image of the university as one of the serious public universities in Nigeria and an emerging academic brand in the world.
In recognition of the lecturers’ resourcefulness, the Vice-Chancellor directed that they be given commendation letters, even as he charged them and other staff of the university to breast-up for the demands of 21st century education.
