Yaba College of Technology, YABATECH update on indecent dressing and appropriate sanctions


The management of Yaba College of Technology wishes to inform all students that the institution has observed an increase in indecent dressing and improper conduct on campus. The school emphasizes that it has zero tolerance for indecent dressing and any student found guilty will face disciplinary action.
Below are some of the offences and their disciplinary measures:
- Backless clothes – First offence attracts advice, second offence attracts warning, while the third offence leads to one semester suspension.
- Short dresses, short skirts and bum shorts – First offence advice, second offence warning, third offence one semester suspension.
- Sagging of trousers – First offence advice, second offence warning, third offence suspension.
- Unacceptable hairstyles such as artificial dreadlocks, excessive braiding or weaving for male students – attracts advice, warning and suspension respectively.
- Coloured hair, cowries and extreme fashion hairstyles – punishable by advice, warning and suspension.
- Male students wearing earrings – attracts disciplinary measures from advice to suspension.
- Multiple piercings including nose, mouth and eye rings – advice, warning and possible suspension.
- Crop tops, off-shoulder clothes and micro mini dresses – punishable under the same disciplinary process.
- Tattoos – subject to advice, warning and suspension.
- Wearing face caps unnecessarily – attracts disciplinary actions.
- Bringing babies to classrooms or hostels – may result in hostel eviction, warning and suspension.
- Bringing cars with tinted glass – vehicle will be impounded, student suspended and a ₦20,000 fine paid before release.
- Public display of affection – attracts advice, warning and suspension.
- Wearing dark glasses without reason – attracts disciplinary measures.
- Wearing bathroom slippers to class – not allowed and punishable.
- Wearing extremely tight or elastic clothes – considered inappropriate.
- Wearing pyjamas or sleepwear to academic areas – prohibited.

All students are therefore advised to dress modestly and maintain a professional appearance that reflects the dignity and values of the institution.
