A total of 519 out of the 6,405 students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) will be graduating with first class as the institution holds its 34th and 35th convocation ceremony of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor of the school, Prof Adenike Oladiji, who disclosed this during a press conference to herald the convocation ceremony of the school, said 3,408 graduated with second class honours (Upper division) 2,139 students have second class honours (lower division) while 339 graduating with third class.
The first female VC of the institution two students from the engineering department, Faromika, Ifeoluwa and Vitowanu Aanuoluwapo emerged as the best students for the 2022/ 2023 academic session with CGPA of 4.96 while Ajakaye Joshua emerged as the best student in the 2023/2024 academic session with CGPA 4.95.
According to her, the university will also confer Postgraduate Diploma, Master and Doctoral degrees on 960 graduates, saying “Postgraduate Diploma- 299, M-Phil 2, M-Phil/ PhD 3, Masters – 536 and PhD -120
Speaking on the highlight of the convocation ceremony, the VC said “One of the highlights of the events will be the Convocation lecture with the title, Technological Innovations: A Panacea to Food Insecurity, and it will be delivered by Hon. (Dr) Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, Hon Minister of Interior, on Friday, November 29, 2024 at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium FUTA at 10:00 am
“Honorary Doctoral degrees will be conferred on three eminent Nigerians. The recipients are individuals who have distinguished themselves in various fields of human endeavours. They are: Professor Daniel O. Olukoya – Doctor of Management Science, Mr Ayorinde O. Ogunruku – Doctor of Management Science and Mr Joel Ogunsola – Doctor of Information and Communication Technology.
“Apart from their impressive contributions to humanity, they have also identified with FUTA’s great ideals and vision such that the entire University community can continue to identify with their legacies.
“In line with the tradition of universities worldwide, professors who had retired from service after serving meritoriously for a good number of years are re-appointed as professors emeriti to continue to impact on their faculties through mentorship and guidance in research, seminars and writing of textbooks.
